In a recent group interview, when Katrina Kaif was asked about her journey with Ali Abbas Zafar from ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’ to ‘Bharat’, she replied:

“We have a very interesting journey together. I met Ali for the first time on the sets of ‘New York’, which was Kabir Khan’s first film as a director and Ali was assisting him. At that time I was also Singh is King and had to go to Mumbai for a shot. He refused to let me go to Mumbai in a very impolite manner. Immediately after this incident, I told my manager, I hate this man and if he talks to me again I will tell the producer that I am leaving the set. We started on a very bad note.”

She added:

“Gradually, we became friends when I realized he was a very hard working person and he actually has his heart at the right place when there were instances where he guided me very kindly. And then we did many films together. If I had to choose one of the best films we have worked together, it would definitely be ‘Bharat’.”

On being asked about her character in the film, she said:

“When you see the character, you will know that it is something that I have never done before. She is a very modern, self-made and strong woman in the 70s. It was kind of a woman fighting in the men’s world but yet being feminine, wanting to get married, having children and all the other things that a lot of women do. Kumud’s character struck the right balance between manly fighting and also being a woman at the same time. At one time of the film, she becomes a newsreader in the early 90s.”

She further added:

“I wanted this character to be believable as I didn’t want a single bad thing to be heard about the character. So we found references from old newsreaders who used to come on Doordarshan and even the smallest things from their appearance and behavior has been retained in the film.”

She was also asked with which actor she would have loved to work with if she really had been in the ’70s. To this she replied:

“It would be Dharmendra sir for sure. He was the best looking guy back then.”

‘Bharat’, directed by Ali Abbas Zafar and produced by Salman Khan Films, Atul Agnihotri’s Reel Life Production and Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series is all set to hit theatres this Eid.
