National Pet Day: Where Game Of Thrones Pets Sacrificed Their Lives For The Greater Good

Spread the love

Today, 11th April is celebrated as National Pet Day. In sync of this wonderful day, we remember the loyal and brave pets – direwolves and dragons – of Game Of Thrones who sacrificed their life for the sake of their owners and their family.

On this National Pet Day let us have a look at the clips of when the pets from Game Of Thrones were adopted/born:

Starting with the first sacrifice first, here is our list:

Lady (Sansa Stark’s direwolf)

In season 1, after Nymeria (Arya Stark’s direwolf) attacks the crown prince, Prince Joffrey, Arya drives her stubborn pet away to escape it being executed for attacking the Prince. In her stead, her sister’s pet, Lady is killed by Lord Eddard on the command of Robert Baratheon.

Grey Wind (Robb Stark’s direwolf)

Grey Wind accompanied the King In The North – Robb Stark and his other banner men, down south to wage war against the Lannisters. He was killed at The Twins by Frey men with crossbows during the Red Wedding, after which, he and Robb were decapitated and his head was sewn onto Robb’s corpse

Shaggydog (Rickon Stark’s direwolf)

After separating from Bran’s group (Bran, Meera, Jojen and Hodor), Rickon, Osha, and Shaggydog fleed south of The Wall to Last Hearth to seek refuge with the Umbers. Shaggydog is killed by the Umbers immediately prior to their betrayal of Rickon to Ramsay Bolton. Ramsay apparently skinned Shaggydog to use his fur as a carpet.

Summer (Bran Stark’s direwolf)

Summer accompanied Bran and his companions beyond The Wall to the cave of the Three-Eyed Raven. When attacked by the Night King and Wights, the ever so loyal and brave direwolf attacked the dead in order to buy Bran (who was in a vision) time to escape along with Meera.

Viserion (Daenerys Targaryen’s dragon)

Daenerys heads north of The Wall with her 3 dragons, in order to save Jon Snow and his companions who venture there in order to bring back a wight (the dead) to show Cersie Lannister. All hell breaks loose when the Night King throws his spear and kills Viserion. The sadness his mother and brothers feel at his dead is really moving.

He is back now as a part of the dead and he is wreaking havoc already. For those who do not know, he is responsible for bringing down The Wall in the finale episode of Season 7.

Nymeria and Ghost (Jon Snow’s direwolf), and Drogon and Rhaegal (Dany’s dragons) are yet alive and kicking (though Ghost is MIA). We wonder what other great deals these loyal beasts will accomplish in the last and final season of the fantasy fiction show.
