Tanmay Bhat To Step Away, Gursimran Khamba Sent On Leave By AIB Over #MeToo Allegations

It’s indeed a pretty sad day for standup lovers in the country. Co-founders of All India Bakchod (AIB) Gursimran Khamba and Tanmay Bhat are presently not a part of the comedy channel.

Tanmay, who was also the CEO of the channel, has stepped away from his associations with AIB and Khamba is on a temporary leave of absence until further notice.

For those who do not know what’s happening till now with AIB and the #MeToo allegations here’s a quick rewind. AIB comedian Utsav Chakraborty was accused of sending explicit images to a number of women on social media.

Tanmay is facing accusations that he did not act on complaints against Utsav, a YouTuber and ex-AIB member who was called out on social media last week. Khamba, on the other hand, is facing allegations of sexual harassment on social media.

In an official statement released last evening, AIB Head Human Resource, Vidhi Jotwani, said that both senior members – Tanmay Bhat and Gursimran Khamba – will be stepping away from all AIB related business immediately.

When accusations against Utsav came to light last week, AIB released a statement and announced the delisting of all AIB videos featuring him.

On further discussion amongst themselves to find out if the allegations were true, it came to the notice of the company that Tanmay knew of it and talked to the accused (Utsav) on a personal level. When the victim decided to not press charges then, the matter was dismissed. Accepting their mistake, AIB released a statement apologizing to all.

Hotstar too has ended their association with AIB.

In less than a fortnight many women who are part of the Indian Entertainment Industry have come forward and shared their #MeToo stories exposing the ill doings in the industry. Tanushree Dutta has alleged Nana Patekar harassed her while they were shooting for the 2008 film Horn ‘OK’ Pleassss. She even went on and accused Vivek Agnihotri of asking her to strip while shooting for Chocolate.

Other #MeToo stories that have come to light are those in relation to Vikas Bahl of Phantom Films and Rajat Kapoor. Last night MAMI tweeted that they have dropped two filmsAIB’s Chintu Ka Birthday and Rajat Kapoor’s Kadakh – from the line-up of the upcoming Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival in the wake of the #MeToo tide.
