Kuch Kuch Hota Hai completed 20 years yesterday and the cast and crew, along with other guests, came together to celebrate it. Present at the event were Karan Johar, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Rani Mukerji, Farida Jalal, Zoya Akhtar, Ayan Mukerji, Neha Dhupia, Abhishek Bachchan, Shweta Bachchan Nanda, Twinkle Khanna, Janhvi Kapoor, Ishaan Khatter, Varun Dhawan, Sidharth Malhotra, Badshah & others. There were many things that made the event special last evening. Many stars revealed stories that we weren’t really aware of at the event which was high on nostalgia.
Here are some special moments from the Kuch Kuch Hota Hai Completing 20 Years Event
1) Varun Dhawan’s Impromptu Act & Question To SRK
Varun Dhawan was supposed to say some scripted stuff (which he eventually did) but he started off by asking Shah Rukh something. He said,
“I have to ask Shah Rukh sir one question. Sorry to go off script. You know, when I saw Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, I would always wonder how his hair would look wet in every scene. I would think is it the gel. So I would put a lot of gel but then my hair wouldn’t move. After that the only other person who did it as well as you (Shah Rukh Khan) is Manish Malhotra. So was it gel or water?”
To this, Shah Rukh Khan replied,
“Actually it is spirit gum. No, honestly. So you go back home tonight and put it on your hair and sleep. In the morning when you take a bath, it will look exactly the same. Kal tu dekhna, tu mujhe phone karega aur kahega ki main Manish Malhotra lag raha hoon.”
2) Shah Rukh Khan Finding Rahul From Kuch Kuch Hota Hai To Be A ‘Creep’
Now I find Rahul quite creepy actually. Especially the scene in which I’m hugging one girl and holding the other. And then I’m very lustfully and cheaply looking at this girl whose saree paloo flies off. It seemed really wrong.
3) Twinkle Khanna’s Self-Deprecating Humour
As you might be aware, Karan Johar first offered Tina’s (Rani Mukerji’s) part to Twinkle Khanna but she rejected it. Speaking about it at the event, she said,
“I never in my life regretted not doing Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. But after realising the aura the film still has today, I really regret not being a part of the film. Nevertheless, if I would have been a part of this film it would have been a big flop like rest of my films. Imagine even my film with Shah Rukh flopped. My absence from the film made it a huge success. My mother also told me once that, the best part about Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is my absence.”
4) Shah Rukh Khan Thought Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’s Script Was ‘Crap’
Yes, as unbelievable as it might sound, Shah Rukh Khan really thought so. He said,
“Karan came and narrated an utterly nonsense crap story to me; which is certainly not the one that finally you people saw in the film. In his strange way Karan, the man with many words tried to impress me with his crap story. So yes, I really did not understand the story when I signed in. And I am glad that I did not get into the story and just went ahead with the conviction of Karan, otherwise the film would have not been the way it came out.”
5) Why Salman Khan Agreed To Do The Film When No Else Was Ready To
In a video message, Salman Khan revealed why he agreed to do the film.
“Karan Johar met my sister Alvira and he told her that ‘It’s my first film and I have signed Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan. There is a small but important role for which I am looking for a star but I am not finding any star to play that part’. So my sister Alvira told me that ‘He is a really good guy. It’s his first film and you should help him in his first film’. After that, Karan Johar met me at a party that time, I told him that I will do it for my sister, Yash (Johar) uncle, Hiroo (Johar) aunty, Karan Johar and Shah Rukh, and that’s how I became a part of the film.”
