Rajkummar Rao: For Me, Content Is The Star (In A Film)

Rajkummar Rao is all set for the release of his next film Fanney Khan. This drama, co-starring Anil Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, is the story of a young teenage girl who is pushed by her poor parents to become a musical star. It also deals with the subject of body-shaming.

At the group interview held today, Rajkummar spoke about his experience working with Anil Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai. He also opened up about how he chooses films, body-shaming and more.

Read on to know all the talented Rajkummar Rao had to say:

When asked about his experience working with the likes of senior actors like Anil and Aishwarya, Rajkummar said,

“It was great. The whole journey has been wonderful for me.”

“Working with Anil Sir and Ash was like a dream come true for me.”

Talking about the Fanney Khan, the Shahid actor said,

“But the most important thing was the story. It was the story that got me excited about the film, for me to say yes to it. It talks about aspirations, it talks about dreams, and I could just connect with the character.”

He continued,

“It (Fanney Khan) also talks about body-shaming, which is such a big taboo tight now.”

Elaborating further about body-shaming, Rajkummar said that Pihu Sand, who plays Anil Kapoor’s daughter in the film, experienced it while she was in school. He concluded talking about body-shaming by stating that ‘we can’t judge people on the basis of their physical appearance. What matters is the kind of person you are.’

When asked if he watched the Belgium film Everybody’s Famous! – Fanney Khan is a remake of this movie – Rajkummaar said that he hadn’t seen it. Justifying his point he said he prefers going with a fresh mind to a role.

Talking about films and how he decides on which to do and which not to, the actor said,

“For me, honestly content is the star – and content makes you a star. Content is the thing which works, nothing else. And for me to choose a Fanney Khan is really because I really like the content, like I said. I believe in the story. I feel excited about it, that’s why I said yes.”

Continuing he said,

“And the other film in which I am playing the lead part like Stree or so many others, it’s actually the story which matters – I didn’t say yes to Stree because I was getting to play the lead.”

“So many films were being offered to me where I was supposed to play the lead, but the story didn’t excite me as an actor, so what’s the point of doing a film which I am not comfortable about just to be a lead. It’s better to do a powerful character in like a Fanney Khan, which you’re at least happy doing it.”

Talking about discussing a script with people before saying yes to a film, Rajkummar said,

“I honestly go with my gut feeling. it’s a very impulsive decision for me. I read something, if I like it instantly I say yes to it.”
