She is the czarina of Indian Television and rightly so. Ekta Kapoor was and still is the queen of with her amazing, even if long-running soap operas. She has produced soaps like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki, Kasautii Zindagii Kay, Pavitra Rishta, and Bade Acche Lagte Hain. Her on-running television shows include Naagin, Ye Hai Mohabbatein, Kumkum Bhagya and Kundali Bhagya.
Today on Ekta Kapoor’s birthday we are not going to look at these shows that she has produced but the path-breaking movies she has backed.
Shootout at Lokhandwala (2007)
In this crime film directed by Apoorva Lakhia, Ekta Kapoor told the story of the 1991 Lokhandwala Complex shootout between gangsters and Mumbai Police. We all still remember the amazing performances by the lead cast comprising of Vivek Oberoi, Sanjay Dutt, Tusshar Kapoor, Suniel Shetty and others.
The Dirty Picture (2011)
In this 2011 drama starring Vidya Balan, Emraan Hashmi, Tusshar Kapoor and Naseeruddin Shah. Ekta Kapoor produced a feature film on the life of Silk Smitha, a South Indian actress noted for her erotic roles. The film was so loved and appreciated that it went on to receive 3 National Awards and many others also.
Udta Punjab (2016)
This 2016 black comedy was loosely based on the drug abuse prevailing in Punjab. Prior to its film, the film faced a lot of backlash from the censor board for its content portrayal and language. The movie was even leaked just before its release. In spite of these many adversities, the film was a super hit and won the lead actors awards.
Lipstick Under My Burkha (2017)
This dark comedy film beautifully showed how women are trying to break free from always being suppressed by due to social restriction and male domination. Lipstick Under My Burkha too received a lot of objection from the Censor board and a section of audiences.
Veere Di Wedding (2018)
Veere Di Wedding released last Friday only and it is already winning hearts. Veere Di Wedding is a film that shows women friendship and how strong it is. It is related to the issues that girls face before marriage, after marriage. It is a good entertaining film to watch.
