Telly actors say its long way from realizing women empowerment.

As they celebrate International Women’s Day, our telly actors tell us ways to empower women in the country. They say education and awareness will all lead to women empowerment.

Abraam Pandey – What is women empowerment? I don’t even understand this term, everyone is talking about this and I am hearing this since the last two decades. However. nothing is happening out there in society. Recently an 8-month-old girl child was raped in Delhi, honor killing still exists in many states and minority communities are still not allowing girls to get their basic education. Plus, Dowry system is still there in society and love marriage is not allowed in many cities. I urge all the girls and women that stop seeking your rights and fight for them. One of the most courageous things that you can do is to identify yourself, know who you are, what you believe in and where you want to go. Just believe in yourself, respect your idea, be confident and do whatever you want to do!

Tannaz Irani – Women empowerment is a very strong word. Women empowerment means that people around her have to empower her. The reason why we don’t see it at ground level is that people around women aren’t being educated. For example, a woman or a girl, who’s small and wants to do something, can only do it if her father empowers her. People around ensure that a girl can follow her dreams, a woman can marry the man of her choice and so on. This won’t be possible by only educating a woman. Why do we see women abroad being more emancipated than the women in India is because the people there are educated.

Sheeba – We are far from realizing women empowerment, I feel because as women we ourselves get weakest when we have a girl child. The level of protectiveness and attitude is different in how we treat and behave. Until safety issues worldwide are not tackled, girls will remain behind. We can put in less at work because it is difficult to work late and stay up all night because of safety aspects, hence we are not able to be as productive as our male counterparts. We will have to wait a couple of generations till we train the men to not look differently at the two sexes.

Karan Wahi – I honestly feel our country won’t change till the time the education system starting from grass root level doesn’t change. Teaching manners and how to behave with men and women is more important than trigonometry. So, I guess if we can find a way to do that, then we could definitely counter the issues.

Sanjay Gagnani – Change is inevitable! If we compare our present day to a decade ago, there have been a lot of awareness and improvement in our country when it comes to women empowerment and equality. Still, we have a long way to go as we hear a lot of stories about inequality and inferiority. I feel it is mostly uneducated and illiterate men with narrow minds who treat women unequal. But there have been a lot of NGO’s and a lot of social bodies which are trying their best to create awareness about women empowerment and equality. Let’s all of us pledge and collectively take an oath that we all will never consider any women lesser than anyone and we would help our society blossom because a country wouldn’t develop or grow without women empowerment and equality.

Sourabh Raaj Jain – I personally feel it’s not about either sex, anyone who is determined to be empowered and works towards its goal and ambition, breaks away all its limitations. Yes, in older times the number of men achievers were more than women. But even during those times, we have examples where women have proved their mettle in various fields. Domination of one sex on another is relevant even now in some backward minds, but times are changing. All it needs is a will and with that, even those corrupted minds can be evolved.

Saurabh Pandey – It’s sad but true that still, most women in India don’t get the same equality and empowerment as men. Whereas women are far far more powerful and ahead of men. You give her anything and women will make it into something more beautiful, more fruitful and more abundant. We must understand that it’s only because of women that we are born and come into this world. Those men who feel they are superior to women, they should think of their mother, that she is the reason they walk on this earth. They can never make a baby in their stomach and carry that load for 9 months and grow a family. In my vision, women can be compared to God. India is a country where we worship Shakti the Goddess, who resides in all women. We call our country Bharat Mata. It is a shame if we men fail to give women the honour and respect for what she is.

Himmanshoo Malhotra – I don’t know how we even got into the mess of treating men and women unequally. Both sexes have their own plus and minus points and complement each other. Women need to be respected and given equal rights. That the is the only way that the country will progress.

Laksh – A woman brings a baby into this world, she nurtured a life and grows a family. How can we not respect women then? Being a woman is tough, and we must encourage the women in our lives to take care of themselves. We must support them as much as we can.

Rohit Bhardwaj -Women empowerment is nothing but supporting the women in your lives. They can be in your families, offices or friends circle. Women need to be at par with men. They need to get the same facilities and rights.

Rohit Purohit – Women empowerment in India has really progressed and women are in a much better position today than what they were in earlier. The change needs to start at the grassroots level. Women and families in villages need to be educated and awareness needs to be spread there.
