The festival which is due to take place in January 2018, will feature short films from across the world competing for the top prize.

The selection of Counterfeit Kunkoo is a one of its kind as its making history at the festival. It’s become the second only Indian film ever to be selected for this completion at Sundance. After 16 years a short film from India will be competing at the fest. The last film to do so was Birju in 2002.

Counterfeit Kunkoo tells the story about a married woman who lives in a country where marital rape is not a legal crime.

Vijay who was last seen in PINK and Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Raag Desh, plays the lead in the film. He said,

“It is the largest independent film festival in the world. And Counterfeit Kunkoo was made with absolute indie spirit where we hustled our way into making this film in difficult emotional and physical spaces. I’m looking forward to the audience response now. And if time permits, attend the festival.”
