Board games have also been a special part of the childhood. We either loved them or didn’t love them so much, but there’s no denial that they played a pretty big role in our lives.
Well, now in the 21st century, they have taken a new form. Yes you guessed it right, they are now being made into feature films. There have been a few game adaptions already in the past. And now with Jumanji : Welcome to the Jungle, we can’t contain our excitement.
In the brand new adventure, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, the tables are turned as four teenagers are sucked into the world of Jumanji. This happens when they discover an old video game console with a game they’ve never heard of, they are immediately thrust into the game’s jungle setting, into the bodies of their avatars, played by Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan.
What they discover is that – You don’t just play Jumanji –Jumanji plays you.
Here are a few other childhood board games which can turn out to be a ravishing and adventurous theater experiences.
Monopoly
The ultimate goal is being a monopolist, controlling the board in its entirety. No matter how far you fall behind, there is always the possibility to come back on top. The board game itself doesn’t necessarily have a story, but once people start playing there a great many narratives that come out. As long as the movie doesn’t feel as endless as the board game itself can be, we can get on board.
The Setllers of Catan
Released in Germany by Klaus Teuber in 1995, The Settlers of Catan has gone on to become a worldwide phenomenon. There are tournaments and conventions, countless forms of merchandise, and almost anything else one can think of. One of the only things left to explore is a film adaptation.
Ludo
Ludo is a strategy board game for two to four players race their four tokens from start to finish according to the rolls of a single die. Starting from the inside, the players have to pave their way into their house while overcoming various obstacles. One player can kill the other while on the same square. The question of kill or be killed arises when the person to kill is the friend of the other.
The Game of Life
The Game of Life, or Life for short, brings to our table all the choices and consequences we have to make personally without any of the guilt or personal impact.
Ticket To Ride
This is one for all of the lovers of trains out there. Developed as a German-styled game by Alan R. Moon, it was released in 2004 to worldwide success. If it would ever be made though, it’d be best served really embracing the culture of riding trains across the country.
Forbidden Island
Forbidden Island is a cooperative adventure board game. A Forbidden Island adaptation could share some similarities in style and its use of environment as a character. The crucial element that would need to be developed would be the question of why they are searching for treasure on that island.
