Sumeet Samnani: The first time I read a long script, I ran away

After sharing the screen with superstar Salman Khan in his film Sultan, actor Sumeet Samnani is now part of Siddarth Kumar Tewary and Rahul Kumar Tewary‘s Shankar Jai Kishen 3 in 1. However, the journey has not been easy for Sumeet, who says that he has endured a long struggle to get here.

“I have faced a hardcore struggle, I had no connections with the industry and had to start from the scratch. I did not even know the first step. I started researching on the internet. Then I approached production houses for auditions. The first time I read a long script, I ran away. But I had kept that script. I read it, I rehearsed it and polished the dialogues. I feel that acting comes from inside, I did not take any acting lessons. I had to struggle for almost four years and many people rejected me because of my weight. But then I got Sultan and other television shows followed. And touch wood, with God’s blessings I am doing well now. I am also thankful to the industry for the support,”

he says.

Talking about his role in the show, Sumeet says that it was his character which drove him to come on board.

“The character is very happy-go-lucky, always smiling and that is the most interesting aspect of it. I like smiling. I love comedy shows and this is Sab TV’s show, which I was looking forward to the most. Pinchu Kapoor is someone who pinches his on-screen brother-in-law Ketan Singh a lot and has a habit of suspecting everyone around him.”

Sumeet loves working with producers Siddharth Kumar Tewary and Rahum Kumar Tewary as well. He says.

“I am working with them for the first time. I had heard about them a lot that they are one of the best production houses and now when I am finally working with them, I can say it is really true. The treatment that we get is nice, we have a lot of support. Siddharth sir also briefed me with the character and I have used all his inputs for my character.”

Sumeet adds that the atmosphere on the sets is amazing.

“Everybody likes working but working here is something different, the vibe is so positive. The first day that I was shooting I had the most amazing time and I knew the journey would be amazing as well. I bonded with everyone on the set. Every day, there are funny incidents happening around. The show, being a comedy, everyone is comical here, we enjoy a lot. Our ‘Dress Dada’ is one of them, he comes in our rooms and rehearses each and every line with us and we cannot compete with him, he has that typical Punjabi accent and we can’t stop laughing. I want to give all my love and support to all these people, the technicians and spot dadas, it is because of them that the show is successful,”

he says.

As for the future, Sumeet is on the lookout for different roles now.

“I want to do negative roles, something different from what I have done. I also want to become a lead hero someday. I want to show that a fat, healthy boy can also play a lead,”

he says.
