Arjun Singh Talks About His Role In Mahakali– Anth Hi Aarambh Hai And Lots More

Tell us a little about your role in your show Mahakali.
My character’s name is Suryadev. The name itself indicates the strong character. I have to add here, that our stylist and makeup artists have done justice to the character. The accessories and traditional apparel, done by the designers Shweta, Indro and Sneha is just perfect. The makeup artist spends hours giving us perfect look for all our characters. My character has come out so well because we have all worked as a team for its success.

What were your inputs for the role?
My input for this role was to be totally fresh and focused on set. I always rehearse my scenes before the shoot as these make me perform better. I also share a great rapport with my co-actors, which helps us be comfortable with each other on the set. Our director, Loknath Pandey sir and Madan Ji, play an important role in making us understand the characters.

When it comes to acting, who all are your inspirations and why?
An actor is an observer, so everything and every person around me, inspires me in some or the other. An actor should be a good learner; and must imbibe something new every day. Naseeruddin Shah, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Irfan Khan are some of the actors who I look up to. Despite their tough looks and lean bodies, they are splendid in front of the camera. This is the difference between a superstar and a legend and I want to be a legend.

Do you remember your first shot in front of the camera? Please share your experience…
Yes, I still remember my first audition. It was exciting as well as mesmerising. I was a bit nervous to face the camera but at the end, I was confident enough to play the given role.

What are the kinds of roles that you want to take up? Please share in detail.
The characters that I play must be strong and impactful. I like experimenting with my characters. Now I want to come out of my comfort zone and take up a character that really challenges me.

We don’t know much about your personal life. Please share.
I was born and bought up in a small town in Haryana, called Bahadurgarh. I belong to an army family. My dad was in the army and also a wrestler back then. He was my trainer, my mentor, my guide and whatever I am now, is because of him. From a very young age, I was a fitness freak and my fitness mentor was my father. He was very disciplined, active and always had a never giving up attitude, which I admire a lot.

The movie Dangal was a great example of my life. Before entering the entertainment industry, I was a trained wrestler and the winner of the district wrestling championship. But I was passionate about acting and came to Mumbai, two years back, to try my luck. I have done many TV series and shows before Mahakali like Draupadi, Yeh Hai Aashiqui, Yum Hain Hum, Bal Krishna etc. But in 2016, I lost my father to cancer. I was shattered and lost all hopes of moving on in life with the same spirit. The only thing that got me through was remembering that my father uses to say, ‘Be a Fighter’. That quote gave me the strength to move ahead. As an artist, I follow one rule in my life that the show must go on, no matter what.

In Mahakali, who are your friends off screen. Are you the kind of person who makes friends easily?
Friendship is a miracle which dwells within our heart. In spite of being an introvert, I have many friends on this set of Mahakali. I share a good bond with Jai, Chakshu and Hitanshu but I am the closest to Pratham. I really don’t jell with people easily but when I do, I go all out.

What are your hobbies? Please share in detail.
I am an adventurous person, who is enthusiastic about life. I’m someone, who is full of life and cherish each and every moment. Sports is my best cup of cappuccino. I love adventure sports like paragliding, skydiving, river rafting and I love trekking as well.

How is it working with Siddharth Kumar Tewary and Rahul Kumar Tewary?
I had already worked with Swastik Productions before Mahakali, so I know them from before. Mr Siddharth sir and Mr Rahul sir share a unique bond with the actors. They are humble but professional, disciplined and very down to earth. Swastik Productions is the stepping stone in the field of entertainment and Mr Siddharth sir and Mr Rahul sir are the guardians of this family. I feel blessed to have got the chance to work with them again and would love to do so in the future as well.
