From eating pakoras to riding their bikes, the cast of Siddharth Kumar Tewary’s Swastik Productions’ Shani talk about their favorite monsoon songs and what the rain reminds them of:
Kartikey Malviya:
I love monsoon! I have always enjoyed being in water be it rain or at places like water parks. I love swimming as well. At times when it is raining and I am going back home from school, even if I have my raincoat in my bag, I still don’t use it. I love getting wet in the rain. My favorite monsoon song is Barso Re Megha because it describes monsoon very well.
Gufi Paintal:
I remember during my childhood, when while going to school my mother used to cover me with a raincoat but as soon as I was out of her sight, I used to remove it and get wet and enjoy the rain. Then came teenage years and I remember enjoying monsoon with my first girlfriend. While going to college, we used to deliberately squeeze under my umbrella in full Raj Kapoor Pyar Hua Ikrar Hua Hai style.
Kunal Bakshi:
There are so many childhood monsoon memories like cycling in the rains and coming home to eat pakodas and samosas with tea. When I was in college, I used to bunk college to enjoy rainy days with friends and eat street food and go for long bike rides. Pyaar Hua Ikraar Hua Hai Pyaar Se Phir Kyun Darta Hai Dil By Raj Kapoor Saheb and Nargis is my all time favorite rain song.
Tarun Khanna:
My favorite memory has to be dancing in the first rain with my younger brother Manish and roaming around on our cycle. I still remember, when we used to come back to our house, we used to get yummy food. My mom used to make paneer pakodas for us. Some days it used to be cutlets. Rhim Jhim Gire Sawan and Aaj Rapat Jaye To Hume Na Utthaiyo are my favorite monsoon songs.
Salil Ankola:
We used to go to Lonavala to Tiger hill and have Chai and Kanda bhajia there. The place is awesome and it overlooks the cliff. I was a regular there; we used to go there at least three times every monsoon and used to listen to numbers by Rod Stewart and a number from Namak Halaal, Aaj Rapat Jaye Toh. Another favorite spot was Mahabaleshwar. We used to go eat mutton sukka, thecha and bajre ka bhakri. Those were some fantabulous days!
Zohaib Siddiqui:
I remember going on the terrace to enjoy the first rains of the monsoons, me and my cousins used to dance like maniacs. Back in college, once I and my girlfriend got stuck outside in the rain and it started raining heavily. We both got wet and she started feeling cold. I remember I was wearing a jacket, so I gave it to her in a filmy style. Pakodas and tea is a must in rains I guess and there is nothing like maa ke hath ke pakode. It has become a tradition over the years. My favorite monsoon song is Lagi Aaj Sawan Ki from Chandni.
Praneet Sharma:
My monsoon memories are of me sitting in the balcony when there were heavy rains in Jaipur and my grandmother preparing Mirchi vada and bhujiya for me. My favorite rain song is Dil to Pagal Hai’s Chak Dum Dum as after listening to this song I feel like dancing. Last year in July, my entire family was in Jaipur and it was raining heavily. My grandmother prepared Aloo and Kanda bhajiya with chutney for all of us.
