Indian TV What's Happenin'

Rajev Paul: From actor to poet

Most of you may know Rajev Paul as a popular actor on TV.  He shot to fame with his good looks and amazing acting ability as showcased in roles like Walter the Musician in Swabhimaan, Paddy in Aati Rahengi Baharein, and even a negative role – Deven Garg in Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki.  These are just some of the roles you may have seen him in, but he has many more such roles in his repertoire.  However, there is another very interesting side to his persona, which he has just shared with the world – that of a poet!

This super talented star has recently released a book of Hindi poems entitled Mumbai Mohabbat Aur Tanhai.  The book features his original poetry and introduces us to this hidden talent of his.  Rajev has been writing for a long time, but this is his first published work – a poem collection written in Hindi.  As the title suggests, this book has poetry about loneliness, love, separation, longing desire, pain, political situation in India and the world over…and even about God.

Essentially, he has eloquently penned his thoughts on situations that we all come across in daily life.  Though the title says Mumbai, anyone reading this book will be able to see their own city as Rajev believes loneliness, unfulfilled desires, unfulfilled dreams and emptiness are emotions that are experienced in all cities.

If you loved his acting, you’ll most definitely love his poetry.  The book has already received positive reviews from stalwarts in the entertainment industry like Juhi Chawla, Sonu Nigam, Satish Kaushik, and Talat Aziz.  The Big B himself, Amitabh Bachchan, has also wished him luck on his journey as a writer.

Shared Rajev, “My book will consist of short poems which I have written on certain serious thoughts. I can remember one such appreciation I got after I finished my book. I had asked Juhi Chawla to go through my work.  Before she read it, she pulled my leg asking whether I have written nursery rhymes, but she had to take back her words once she read it, and appreciated me for the work I have put in.”

Hopefully, the book will be one of many, but it depends on the success of the present book of poems.

Jaadu Dekha
Pyaar ki yun baat karna asaan nahi hota
Tuta ho dil jab.. To yeh mukam aam nahi hota..

Dil me aanso aur lab pe hansi
Yeh koi jaadu se kam nahi hota..

Lekin maine jaha bhi dekha… jise bhi dekha…
Sabko yahi jaado karte dekha…
