Karan Malhotra talks about Brothers!

Akshay Kumar and Sidharth Malhotra starrer, Brothers is releasing soon and we had a chance to get some behind the scenes news from director Karan Malhotra! 

Question: Where did you get the inspiration for Akshay’s tattoos?

KM: Akshay is playing a catholic, so my crew went to small lanes in Bandra and spoke to people. They clicked pictures of the tattoos they had. A lot of inspiration was taken from the locals on how they dress, speak and behave. In the movie, Akshay has a tattoo of Jesus on his arm and a cross on his wrist.

Question: What was it like to work with Sidharth Malhotra?

KM: He gave me more than he could which is great. The film required so much hard work and dedication and we all gave it our best.  It is a very difficult role and Sidharth gave it his all and more, so it wasn’t too difficult for me to direct him.

Question: What was it like working with Akshay Kumar?

KM: Akshay was an indispensible casting for the film.  I have been quite eager to work with Akshay for the last two decades. He has not been using a body double since 1990s and that makes him one of the best action heroes of India, in our time.  I am very lucky and honored to have worked with him.

Question: Tell us about the boxing ring sets in the film

Answer: To clarify it isn’t a boxing ring set.  It’s MMA which stands for mixed martial arts. It’s a mixed martial arts film, not a boxing one. The ring that was constructed is an authentic design for MMA fighting.

Question: Tell us about Akshay’s look in the film

Answer: Akshay looks great the way he is. He lost 17 kg’s for the part. That has helped make him look tougher and stronger. He looks really good.

Question: Describe Monty’s character for us (Sidharth Malhotra)

KM: Monty is the guy that is always left out for no fault of his own. So he is a very angry and bitter young man. He has a love- hate relationship with his father. He enters the tournament with anger to prove his existence to people.

Question: Can you describe David’s (Akshay Kumar) character a little bit?

KM: David is someone that enters the erring with a lot of thought process. He is aware that he may not be the strongest fighter but he is the cleverest.
