"Lal Bahadur Shastri's persona fascinates me" – Shalini Arora

One a few people know that the actress Shalini Arora played the role of Lal Bahadur Shastri’s mother in one of the Bollywood film ‘Jai Jawaan Jai Kisaan‘. On the death anniversary of former Prime Minister of India, the vivacious actress feels India needs more politicians like him.

“Nowadays most of the politicians are corrupt, they play dirty politics just to survive and leave no stone to divide us. They should learn from Shastri ji, who served altruistically. Our Nation desperately needs more and more politicians like him,”

said the actress who is currently seen as Asha in Rajshri Productions ‘Ek Shringaar-Swabhimaan’.

Sharing the intresting facts about former PM, she said,

“He protested when his wife smuggled two mangoes to him when he was in prison and when he was a railway minister, how he used to travel like a commoner in trains. He was so upright that he deposited money in government treasury, because his son had used his official car. He was an iconic leader and an amazing orator.”

In the film Akhilesh Jain essayed the title role, where as late Om Puri, Prem Chopra, Rati Agnihotri played the prominent roles in the film. Although ‘Jai Jawaan Jai Kisaan‘ didn’t do well in the box office, but won accolades in various film festivals.

“Since childhood, I was fascinated by his persona, so when my friend Dhiraj Mishra (who wrote the screenplay of the film) approached me, I said yes without giving a second thought. It was an amazing and joyous experience for the film. However, I have one regret that I haven’t got the opportunity to share screen space with Om Puri ji, an actor par excellence,”

quipped Shalini.
