Dipti Mehta nominated for Best Supporting Actress in Milan, Italy!

Dipti Mehta has been nominated for Best Supporting Female award in the 2016 International Filmmaker Festival of World Cinema to take place in Milan, Italy from Nov 26th – Dec 3rd!  Mehta, a New York resident, stars in “Midnight Delight,” director Rohit Gupta’s third film, which features nine vignettes of comedy, wit and reality that follow strangers in high spirits, crossing paths during nights of exploration. These curious visitors reflect on daily existence, societal curiosities and demystify the status quo along the way conversing about various topics. Discussion includes topics varying from “why do we talk” to “what do models eat”, “if water makes us fat”, to “if dolphins could be the reason for the inception of the entire universe or its destruction” moving to even hats, moisturizer, maths, infinity, working out at the gym, dating games and health supplements among other topics. Mehta plays a scientist questioning the status quo in the second vignette “Awakening” with her co-star Rachel Myers.

Dipti enjoyed working on the film and shared,

“I loved the idea of the project. When Rohit first shared it with me, I was really excited by the fact that one movie could cover literally the universe. Rohit gives his actors a lot of freedom. It is a true collaboration when you work with him. He listens to our ideas and actually partners with us actors.”

The film and her performance have earned positive reviews since its premiere at the Cannabis Film Festival in California. Midnight Delight was released on July 21, 2016 worldwide via video on demand (VOD) on various platforms including iTunes, Google Play, Amazon, Vimeo, Hoopla, Sony among others. The International Filmmaker Festival of World Cinema awards will be announced on December 3rd. The film has picked up additional five nominations for the Best Film, Best Director, Best Comedy, Best Animated Sequence, Best Lead Actress-‘Alexandra Hellquist’ who also won “Best Supporting Actress” – her first international award for her performance for Midnight Delight earlier this year.

Mehta added,

“I’m honored to have been a part of the film and to be nominated for the award. I’m also really excited for the other nominations that the film has picked up. Rohit deserves all the credit for making this happen.”

Earlier Mehta won several accolades for her lead debut role in the feature ‘Life! Camera Action…’ also directed by Rohit Gupta which received critical acclaim winning several international awards and nominations from around the world. Like the other segments in the anthology feature Midnight Delight, her vignette was also entirely improvised, with all the dialogue developing spontaneously between Mehta and her co-actress, Rachel Myers.

In his review for The Daily Public, Michael Faust compared Midnight Delight to the film Coffee and Cigarettes directed by Jim Jarmusch, noting an analogy between the former’s themes with respect to coffee and cigarettes and the latter’s with respect to cannabis. He stated,

“Midnight Delight is what Jim Jarmusch’s Coffee and Cigarettes might have looked like had his chatting couples been smoking pot instead of tobacco”.

Faust concluded it is

“more likeable than tedious”.
