The Golden Girls are back… as Puppets!

Whether or not you grew up in the ’80s/’90s you’re probably still familiar with the show “The Golden Girls.” In fact, the show seems to be more popular now than when it originally aired!  The show still airs on television on certain channels, so you may have seen it!  Plus there are so many parodies that have come up about it!  The latest parody being an off-broadway production!  The show is set to return in a new parody puppet production of the Golden Girls that is presented in theatrical format!  “That Golden Girls Show! A Puppet Parody” began a limited-run performance at New York City’s Union Square DR2 Theatre on Sept. 19 and officially opens on Oct. 3.  We think this is going to be one hilarious show!  Check out the introduction below with the puppets as the main stars!

The Golden Girls series revolves around four older, single women (three widows and one divorcée) sharing a house together in Miami, Florida.  The owner of the house is a widow named Blanche Devereaux (Rue McClanahan), who is one of the more promiscuous characters on the show.  After she advertizes a room-for-rent, she is joined by fellow widow Rose Nylund (Betty White) – who is a more naiive character – and the snarky divorcée Dorothy Zbornak (Bea Arthur).  They are also joined by Dorothy’s 80-year-old mother, Sophia Petrillo (Estelle Getty), who is known to tell it like it is.  The show was very successful and won several awards.  We’re guessing the puppet version will also do well!  Keep it locked to Urban Asian for more details!
