Watch out guys because there is a new hottie in T-town! Post yet another 20 year leap, Zee TV’s popular series Qubool Hai introduced yet another set of drool worthy male leads. Among which is 26 year old Ankit Raj from Jabalpur. A model par excellence, Ankit Raj has walked the ramp for Manish Malhotra, Troy Costa and Rohit Bal in the past. Now the model turned actor is testing the waters (literally!) as the Awe-striking Amaad of Qubool Hai. In a heart to heart with Urban Asian, Ankit reveals his journey to television, his charcater and much more!
From the ramp to the small screen, how did the transition happen for you?
The transition was a natural one and the journey has been nothing short of beautiful. I was passionate about modeling for a long time now. At the age of 20 I became a fashion model after which I participated in a number of fashion week events across the nation. I also took on television commercials and print ads which earned me the recognition of Asia’s Supermodel Award 2015 which was hosted in South Korea. Thereafter I made my decision to join acting and here I am, Amaad Iqbal Khan of Qubool Hai.
Your entry scene in Qubool Hai created quite the buzz. What was going through your head while the scene was being filmed?
It wasn’t just my entry into Qubool Hai but my entry into television therefore I was really excited. A lot was going through my mind at the time but I knew I had to remain foces and give it my best. My determination and help from the entire team made this scene not only memorable but buzz worthy!
What is the most challenging aspect of working in a daily soap?
I believe the most challenging aspect of working in a daily soap is to get into the skin of your character.To know your character well and live up to the expectations of the writers who has created the character is the most challenging thing.
How difficult is it to be a newbie on a set where everyone else is well acquainted?
Qubool Hai is a big name in television so working with senior actors and technicians could have been difficult for me as a newbie but everyone was so supportive and welcoming that made me really comfortable. Now more than work, Qubool Hai is a fun hangout session with friends.
What is the one thing you love about your character the most?
I love his wit and carefree nature.
Your character Amaad shares a bitter sweet relationship with Azaad. What is your off screen relationship with Rajbeer Malik like?
We share a nice brotherly relationship off screen. We will catch up at times and chat out our work, schedule work out session, discuss healthy eating tips and speak about life.
The former male leads of the show were well received by fans. Do you feel the pressure of “stepping into their shoes”?
I had this thing in my mind while signing the show but then I was also confident about my work and dedication. I knew I wanted to give my best but also knew there would be a lot of pressure from fans. Thankfully I am have been well received by them which feels like a blessing.
