Recently, actor Shahid Kapoor fell for a fake story that went viral on social media. He had shared the photo of a cheetah-impala hunt on Instagram, but later deleted it.
While sharing the post on Instagram, he captioned the photo by writing,
“No man can match up to what a mother does. Women are superior to men in so many ways. Let’s learn to appreciate them. And learn to show them love. Every day.”
The picture that was posted claimed that the photographer went into depression after clicking the snapshot. The photographer Alison Buttigieg, however, has denied this story. She said the picture wasn’t of a mother who surrendered herself for her kids; instead she had clicked the photo in September 2013 at the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya. She wrote that a cheetah mother was teaching her kids how to kill prey and that the kids were playing with the prey but the impala still stayed calm and then later was killed by the cheetah mother. She also took to social media to refuse the fake back story of the image that went viral.
Here’s what the photographer posted on Facebook:
“A highlight of my photography career has turned into a nightmare. My Stranglehold photo went viral in a huge way with a completely ridiculous fake story accompanying it, and implications I fell into depression after I took it (seriously who comes up with this crap?!?) – not to mention the gross copyright violations. Sensationalism at its best – complete fiction so that people get more likes on their page. The photo with the fake story has been shared hundreds of thousands of times on various social media. I am getting inundated by hundreds and hundreds of messages asking me whether I am the “depressed photographer”. I have been tagged in LinkedIn with the fake story – that’s going to do wonders for my career. What a vile world we live in, full of stupid gullible people spreading #fakenews like crazy.”
