Filmy Friday review of Ok Jaanu!

There is nothing that makes me more happier than kicking off the year with such a beautiful romantic-comedy film like Ok Jaanu!

I’m going to remind you of a love-story rom-com film that was one of my all time favorites in 2002 and that is Saathiya. The same director Shaad Ali brought to us a beautiful story today on-screen like he did with his first directorial in 2002.

ok-jaanuI was told prior to seeing the film that it would not be good, and I went in with a blank slate, walking out of it totally in love with Ok Jaanu. Its a story every career focused millennial who is afraid to commit fully into any relationship especially when the relationship could potentially lead to marriage. While this story seems not so extraordinary, it is all about the way the story has been presented to us on-screen.

While watching Ok Jaanu I was fully captivated from beginning to end. From the breathtaking dialogues, to the lustful romantic conversations between Adi and Tara played by Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor. Naseeruddin Shah and Leela Samson’s undying love characters were simply timeless. Additionally I particularly enjoyed seeing the dynamic of ‘love’ being portrayed in many shades, and more so between two different generations. I believe even one who may not enjoy love-stories will find it hard to not fall in love with this film.

There are many aspects to this film that made it so magical yet real feeling. One being the cinematography! There were unusual angles, beautiful locations of Mumbai were captured, and I specifically enjoyed the Ahmedabad scene. Two being the flawless soundtrack and scoring of the film by none other than the music guru, A.R. Rahman. Ever since the entire soundtrack of Ok Jaanu has released, I cannot stop listening to it! And three the dialogues and screenplay by Gulzar and Mani Ratnam, so well and beautifully written.

Ok Jaanu truly stole my heart and is a must watch film on the big screen, especially for every millennial seeking a relatable love-story.
