Alankrita Srivastava’s Lipstick Under My Burkha, the pathbreaking film chronicling the lives of four women from the bustling bylanes of Bhopal as they chase their small dreams of freedom, is having quite the successful run on the international film festival circuit!
Premiering at the Mumbai Film Festival, the team, which includes Konkona Sen Sharma and Ratna Pathak, took home the OXFAM Award for Best Film on Gender Equality. It then moved on to the Tokyo Film Festival, where it was awarded the Spirit of Asia Award by the Japan Foundation Asia Center. The film also found acclaim at the Stockholm International Film Festival and the Cairo International Film Festival.
Next stop: Miami, where Lipstick Under My Burkha will feature among fifteen other films directed by women at the 2017 Miami Film Festival, as part of the festival’s spotlight on female filmmakers addressing gender bias in the film industry.
