Dharma Productions and the team of Kapoor & Sons have released the official full soundtrack for the film. The music has been composed by Amaal Mallik, Badshah, Arko Pravo Mukherjee, Tanishk Bagchi, and Nucleya, with lyrics written by Badshah, Manoj Muntashir, Kumaar, Dr. Devendra Kafir, and Abiruchi Chand. “Kar Gayi Chull”, the first track of the album, was also the first video from the film to be released. This is a supremely addictive house party track sung by Badshah, Fazilpuria, Sukriti Kakar, and Neha Kakkar. In addition to the great beats, I simply loved the dance moves and Adil Shaikh’s choreography in the video.
“Bolna” is a beautiful romantic number rendered melodiously by Arijit Singh and Asees Kaur. The minimalist orchestration really suits the unplugged nature of this song. Combining drums with the unique South Indian ghatam percussion is also nice touch. Definitely one of my favorites from the film so far!
Featuring adorable grandpa Rishi Kapoor in the video and Armaan and Amaal Mallik on vocals, “Buddhu Sa Mann” is the latest video release from the Kapoor & Sons team. It doesn’t have a particularly unique melody, and because of its orchestration, this track bears similarities to the songs “Sooraj Dooba Hai” and “Ilahi”, in that they all have the same “chill party” vibe. One cool thing to look out for in this song is the guitar chords during beat drop moments.
“Saathi Rey” is a soft song rendered and composed by Arko Pravo Mukherjee. It is even more unplugged than “Bolna”, but the strings and piano orchestration nicely layer over the plain melody.
The final track in the album, “Let’s Nacho” is a fascinating fusion of sorts. Sung by Badshah and Benny Dayal, the song is a typical club number with what sounds like a remixed or electronic nadaswaram melody that forms the basis for the chorus. The random Tamil at the beginning and interspersed throughout is interesting and catches you by surprise, but it is also confusing because it seems out of context. I suppose we’ll have to wait and watch the film to find out!
Final Verdict: Kapoor & Sons is a relatively diverse album with the first three tracks likely becoming more popular among listeners. The melodies are cliched but seem to suit the mood of the film. Nevertheless, we can’t wait to see them pictured onscreen when the film releases!
