This past weekend was a treat for film lovers with the release of Dilwale, Bajirao Mastani and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. With success comes a lot of controversy unfortunately, both Dilwale and Bajirao Mastani faced much protest from audiences.
Dilwale faced a lot of problems with right wing protesters in New Delhi. These right wing activists were against the screening of the film because of a statement made earlier by Shah Rukh Khan against he rising intolerance in India. The protesters marched to the theater, took down posters, defaced images of Shah Rukh Khan and more in front of a theater screening in New Delhi. Heavy security was put in place with many police officers at the theater for fans attending the screening.
Bajirao Mastani also faced a lot of negativity from protesters in Pune. The Bharatiya Janata Party Yuva Morhca protest against the screening of the film led to cancellation of the shows in Pune theaters! The BJP members claim the film allegedly distorts the portrayal of the character of Peshwa in the film, party members believe that he is not depicted in proper manner in the film in various scenes.
Bajirao Mastani also faced controversies earlier on the accuracy of the film and whether or not the lead characters like Bajirao and Kashi bai were being portrayed respectfully. The families of these legendary roles were upset over certain scenes. Even with all the negativity and controversy both films seem to be doing well at the box office with decent reviews.
