Nothing worries Sonakshi Sinha. Nothing! And why would it? She is calm, composed and very happy in her space and with the kind of films that she has been doing. There has been a lot of reportage about some leading ladies declining roles in blockbusters because of various reasons but Sinha, with her head held high, loves what she does without any regret. Her ‘Holiday’ with Akshay Kumar pleased the box office and now she is all set to have a blast with out and out commercial films like ‘Action Jackson’ opposite Ajay Devgn and ‘Tevar’ with Arjun Kapoor.
Dressed up casually in a black T-shirt and blue pants, she looks stunning and least fazed by the apprehension that many feel regarding her film choices. They do really well at the box office, make the right kind of noise – most of them make it to the Rs.100 crore club – and if they are not the most substantial roles, well… Such blockbusters have also made Sonakshi a rockstar in such a short span!
“I have no complaints as my career graph is going very well,” she shrugs. “That’s there for all to see. I don’t know about the others so I wouldn’t want to comment.”
She quickly moves on to point out that “you sort of find your space.” With her ‘Holiday’ hero she sure already has, this being their fourth film together.
“There was a time when I was working with Akshay (Kumar) Sir for the first time. But over time you form a certain camaraderie and rapport. And that happens during the film. The first time is only on the first day, because after that you are working with the person every single day. So you form a good rapport…What I like about him is that he is very calm. Nothing fazes him. Whatever be the nature of the situation he is in, he will approach it in a calm manner. In the last four years I have never seen him get angry and I like that approach. He has a certain aura, which is very positive.”
Sonakshi also enjoyed sharing screen space with none other than Govinda in the film. There were days when Shatrughan Sinha and Govinda worked together and now when she shares screen space with the stars who have worked with her father, it’s a different feeling altogether.
“It was quite nice. He didn’t know how to react actually, as he has been seeing me from the time I used to go to his daughter’s birthday parties! All these people have been friends with my parents for years, so they have been very supportive and are happy to see me succeed and do well for myself. He is really good at what he does, so it was a learning experience to watch him and learn from the way he acts, improvises and dances till today.”
She sure believes in keeping her eyes open and learning constantly, and pushing the envelope even in limited circumstances. For instance, she pulled off a different western look in ‘Holiday’, a marked change from her saris and salwar suits thus far…
“Definitely this western look is different from what you have seen me in so far. I play a college going girl, who is into a lot of sports. I am glad I took this chance, because it has paid off and the look is being appreciated,” she beams.
…And that, like we said, is the bottom-line!
