A visual, emotional, musical feast! Sanjay Leela Bhansali has done it again and delivered the perfect start to the holiday season with his newest film Ram Leela. With superb casting in the lead roles of Ram (Ranveer Singh) and Leela (Deepika Padukone) Sanjay Leela Bhansali introduces us to two passionate lovers from rival Gujrati families who try to fulfill their love story.
A true master of his craft, SLB produces sets with a depth that surpasses any of the obnoxious hollywood 3D technology out there today. He proves that all one needs to immerse their audience in the onscreen world is an eye for the fantastic. Like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Devdas, and Saawariya, SLB captures the richness of India’s culture in the wardrobe, music, choreography, and cinematography of this film.
If there was any doubt about Ranveer’s star potential it has been totally annihilated after his performance in Ram Leela. From the moment one hears guitar riff for the opening song it is clear that Ranveer is about to blow your socks off. (Ranveer tweet me! I need to know your diet!) Not to be out done Deepika, who has already won me over many many films ago, delivers a performance that proves she is the “It” girl. Whether the rumors about Kareena Kapoor leaving this film are true or not, everyone will be thankful that no one else took this role.
As much as I love this film I just want to caution people about seeing this film with their parents or grandparents as the palpable onscreen passion between Ranveer and Deepika might provide for some awkward or uncomfortable, “non-traditional” moments. Anyways stop reading! Get off your computer and go see this movie!
