Vidya Balan and Ranbir Kapoor win big at the Zee Cine Awards!

‘Zee Cine Awards 2012 with Lebara Mobile powered by Neesa Basmati Riceturned out to be one exciting night for Vidya Balan and Ranbir Kapoor! Vidya Balan won both the Best Actress Award (Popular Choice) and the Jury’s Best Actress Award for her amazing performance in “The Dirty Picture.”

Ranbir Kapoor took home the  Best Actor Award (Popular Choice) for “Rockstar,”  while Shah Rukh Khan bagged the Jury Best Actor Award for his work in “Don 2!” Zoya Akhtar wasn’t far behind making multiple trips to the stage to collect the Best Film, Best Director as well as Best Story Awards for Zindagi Na Milegi Doara.

When Vidya Balan went up on stage to pick up her well-deserved Best Actress (Popular Choice) and Jury Award for Best Actress trophies, the actress said,

“This is a very emotional moment for me as I began my career on Zee TV with Balaji Productions first show on television, Hum Paanch. And now years, later, to be standing and receiving the Best Actress Award on a Zee TV platform and that too for my work in  a Balaji Production is just fabulous. Life has come a full circle with me winning not one but two awards at Zee’s awards ceremony for a film I’ve done with Ekta almost 20 years later.”

Vidya Balan also thanked her lucky mascots – her twin niece and nephew whose very presence has brought in a wave of applause and awards her way. When she coyly acknowledged her beau Siddharth Roy Kapoor by thanking a “special someone who makes every day worth living”, she sent the crowd into a frenzy. Vidya Balan later paid a scintillating tribute to the sirens from the South dancing to the raunchy number ‘Nakka Mukka’ and her popular ditty ‘Ooh La La’!

The show was hosted by the King Khan himself along with his “Don 2” co-star Priyanka Chopra.  The duo had the audience laughing the entire time with the comedy sketches, but the most exciting part of the night was Ranbir Kapoor’s first ever stage performance at an Awards ceremony!

The crowd went berserk when he descended from the stadium’s high ceiling on a rope wearing a harness. Besides his ‘Rockstar’ performance, the young Kapoor paid homage to his late grand-uncle Shammi Kapoor with a medley of his most popular dance hits.  Shahid joined him in raising a toast to the evergreen spirit of the late Dev Anand.

Later, in the course of his acceptance speech, Ranbir Kapoor cheekily thanked SRK saying,

“I would personally like to thank Shah Rukh for having eased out his monopoly over the awards and letting someone else take home the Best Actor trophy.”

Always ready with a witty comeback, SRK quipped,

“I look forward to the day when my son, in a few years, will give you a run for your money and beat you at the awards game, Ranbir!”
