Pratyusha Banerjee became a household name as the strong woman who was forced into a child marriage in Colors’ super hit show, Balika Vadhu. So when the actress committed suicide, it shocked her fans, family and friends. New details of what is allegedly Pratyusha’s last conversation with her boyfriend, Rahul Raj Singh have surfaced.
A leading daily has received a copy of the transcript of the phone call to Rahul, which was the last time Pratyusha spoke to anyone, according to Neerja Gupta. She is the advocate for Pratyusha’s parents, Soma and Shankar Banerjee. Pratyusha ended her life by hanging herself on April 1st this year from her ceiling fan at her home in Goregaon. Rahul was the one who found her and rushed her to Kokilaben Dhirubai Ambani hospital along with a cook that worked in one of the apartments in the building complex. He informed her parents, who live in Jharkand, about the tragedy one hour after he found her dead. Rahul, who is currently out on bail, is accused of abetting her suicide. He has also been charged with criminal intimidation.
In the three-minute long conversation, Pratyusha is heard saying,
“B******d man.. I f**k so hard.. In my life i f**k so hard… for everything… I had not come here to sell myself… I had come here to act… to work. And where are you putting me today.. Rahul, you have no idea how bad I am feeling right now.”
Neerja claims that from the conversation it is clear that Rahul was forcing Pratyusha into prostitution. She says,
“This conversation happened between Rahul and Pratyusha just before her death. In this conversation, it is very clear that she was forced into prostitution by Rahul, as later on in the same phone call she has used the word ‘prostitution’.”
Rahul, on the other hand says the transcript does not reveal anything that is not already known. He says,
“She was telling me that her mom and dad wanted her to earn money anyhow, and she was complaining about them.”
In the second half of the transcript, Pratyusha says to Rahul,
“…You are selfish… you are spoiling my name. People are talking about me… my mom and dad are termed ghatiya.”
Towards the end of the conversation, Pratyusha tells Rahul,
“Rahul, it’s over. I am over. Mar gayi mein (I am dead),”
Rahul can be heard reassuring and asking her not to “do anything”. He tells her he will be home in a half an hour to which she replied,
“Everything will be over in half an hour.”
Neerja is planning to file an application for re-investigation of the case. She says,
“The police should have found out who was threatening her parents. They should have conducted a proper investigation, but they did nothing.”
However, according to Rahul, Pratyusha’s friends and family have falsely accused him of using her money. He said,
“She had no work. I was supporting her.”
